This time was different. When Shuichi awoke there was no pain like before. Whatever Tohma had slipped him at the club seemed to have finally wore off, and the teen was insanely grateful. And as long as he thought about the relief from the pain, then Shuichi didn’t have to think about what led him to pass out. Of course, as soon as he thought that…well, it all kind of defeated the purpose. Because now he was thinking about Tohma and all that the blonde had said. And that panic was coming back.
Trying to even out his breathing, Shuichi vaguely registered the sound of talking. Pulling himself out of the lush bed, he shuffled weakly toward the door. He tried the handle, but it was locked from the outside. Sighing, he pressed his ear to the door but couldn’t make out what was being said. One thing was for certain, Shuichi did not have a good feeling about this.

Tohma wasn’t in a very good mood when his cell started to go off. Barely swallowing the growl that rose in his throat, the N-G President pulled out the tiny bit of technology. On the face plate was ‘Eiri & Shuichi’ and the apartment’s number. Frowning, he took a deep breath and answered the call.
“Hello?”
“He’s missing,” was the only response he got.
Tohma couldn’t help the smirk. Oh, but I know exactly where he is. “Eiri, what are you talking about?”
The anger and fear swirled together, lacing the voice of the novelist until it resounded through the phone like a burning bite. “Shuichi is missing. He went out last night and hasn’t come back.”
“Did you call whoever he was with? Maybe Nakano would know?”
This time there was a growl. “Of course. He told me he was going out with Ayaka, but she said…that they hadn’t even talked in a week.”
Oh, dear. Was the almighty Eiri Yuki hesitating? Stuttering was sure to come…if hell was going to freeze over.
“I see. And what would you like me to do about this, Eiri?”
“Find him.” The novelist ground out, teeth clenched so hard Tohma could hear them.
“If Shuichi doesn’t want to be found this might prove difficult.”
There it was. That little catch of breath just before it quickened. It was what Tohma had been waiting for, Eiri to think the pink-haired singer had simply had enough and split. Of course, anyone who knew Shuichi wouldn’t believe it for a moment, but Eiri was vulnerable enough in this situation to doubt their certainty. And Tohma would make sure to always keep that doubt hovering in the air, like the figurative smoke and mirrors of his own, inspired illusion.
“Eiri?” The man hadn’t said anything for several minutes.
“He wouldn’t do that. Something must have happened.”
“We must look at all possible scenarios, of course. I’ll stop by soon, okay? Then I’ll make some calls.”
“Yeah. Okay.” Eiri’s voice sounded distant, lost amongst his own thoughts. When he was sure the writer had hung up, Tohma moved to do the same.
Looking up, the blonde frowned slightly. At some point during the call, he had started to walk out of his study. And landed in front of Shuichi’s door, his free hand stretched out. The fingers were brushing against the surface, a feathery grace of flesh against wood. I should check on him…
